silent auction starts at 5:30PM and closes promptly at 6:30PM.

Weekly Happenings
There
have been some really chaotic days at the bike shop, we're amazed at
how many people can fit into the small space. But hey, that's
a
good problem and reaffirms our belief that there is truly a need for
the shop. Effective
immediately, the shop is expanding open
shop
hours, adding Thursday
evening hours.
This
will permit us to lessen the congestion and hopefully get more
volunteers involved in the shop's operation. Feel free to
stop
by, bring your bike for some tweaking or repairs, or just come chat.
Get involved with the CBSO and come volunteer.

Get
this on you calender now, and stop by for a short class on a
specialized bicycle maintenance task that you really need to know
about. Bring your bike along for any special work it might
need,
there will be a lot of bike knowledge standing around and we don't want
it to go to waste. You will have some time to check up on
your
volunteer comrades and get the last word on local rides, trips,
rallies, and have a chance to share biking stories about bad Omaha
drivers. Click on the following link and let us know you're

Logo
and TSHIRTS
The
Community Bicycle Shop has a new incredible logo ! Styled after
the great sign hanging outside the shop door, and designed by
the
super-talented board member Stuart Shell (thanks Stuart !).
We're finishing up the details to have T-shirts printed up
with the logo,
and they will be available very very soon (we promise !).
Please
take our very quick poll on the left side of the Newsletter, we would
like to know what color of T-Shirt you would prefer.

Earn-A-Bike
Program
One
of our latest Earn-A-Bike program participants was John
from Wilmington, Delaware. John had been hoofing and
hiking
and begging rides on his personal journey across the United States.
Somewhere along the route, he heard about CBSO and the
Earn-A-Bike program -- he suddenly realized there was a better way to
travel and the folks in Omaha might be able to help -- so he headed to
the Big O!. Spending the past week in Omaha, John volunteered
at
all of our open shop hours and then some. We did our best to
make
him as bike-smart as we could (John had never taken a wheel off a bike,
or even patched a tube when he arrived). He completed his volunteer
service, received a big dose of bicycle maintenance training,
earned his bicycle, and resumed his journey of discovery.
There are no age restrictions on the Earn-A-Bike program, and it
is applicable to individuals and mentoring teams alike. Although
the final reward is a bicycle at the completion of the program, the
real reward is the committment and perserverance it takes to get there.
If you're not familiar with our Earn-A-Bike program, get the
details at our website. (Earn-A-Bike)
We
all need a few VISES (and
virtues)
A big
Thank You goes out to Gary Gebhard for locating a monster vise,
just
what we wanted and really needed. The vise has been fastened
solidly to a workbench, and along with the wheel and pedal spindle
adapter, it provides the ideal solution for bearing work. Gary has
also found a new set of shelves. Now we just have to get them
organized! If you have a great idea for what to put on them,
let
us know. A
huge round of applause please .. clap .. clap .. clap. Thank
you
Gary !

Squeaky wheel
Workstation
tools -- when you are finished with a project at a workstation, please
take a minute to put the tools away. If you borrowed tools
from another workstation, be sure they get back to the correct
location. Most tools are color coded to identify at which
workstation
they belong.
A
Word from your Board Chair
It has been
an amazing, busy summer in the CBSO. More members of the
community are finding out about us through word of mouth from
volunteers and supporters like you. The momentuum keeps
growing. Sometimes it's hard to believe that we've only been
here for three years! With more
activity in the shop comes more need for individuals with passion for
building community and teaching bicycle skills and the vision (and a
little time) to take the shop to the next level. If you or
someone is interested in serving on our board or heading up a special
project in the shop, shoot me an email and let us know. We
need help in accounting, fundraising, event planning and publicity.

went wrong and help find a place for you to participate in the mission
of the shop.
